Maila Nurmi Vampira Memorial Fund

Many, if not all of us, have heard news of the death of Maila Nurmi, the magnificent woman who created and breathed exquisite life into the unforgettable character, Vampira.

She was a legend, an icon, a figure to be revered. And yet she was a woman, an old woman with a face that could turn tides and change history. I have never known someone so sharp, so biting and filled with so much to give that she simmered beneath her velvety paper-thin skin. Eyes the colour of frost, she had it within her to turn them to you and pour her stories into your soul until she expanded the parameters of who you were entirely. She could turn on you with the quickness and venom of a serpent and make you feel absolutely insignificant. Her warmth and fondness existed in nuance and compliments that required one to pay attention. Her humor, as with all things concerning this lady of vast spirit, was sophisticated and bitter and pointed.

She saw us, each of us that was invited into her controlled life. She viewed us with the eye of a skeptic. Not a victim but someone accustomed to being used and wrenched from all sides, and determined not to allow any such nonsense again. She would open slowly, delicately like the most precious of orchids, filling your senses with a perfume that lingered to haunt you long after your time with her had passed.

She knew the rules and didn't care to follow them. Her path, her expectations of others, her life, was her own. We should all be so fierce, so intelligent and so powerful, to own ourselves, our decisions and failures, and our minds.

She died with little as is usually the case for our dark legendary figures.

Thankfully her niece has given us permission to send her off beautifully.

As for what you can do...Collapse )

Every dollar counts. She deserves the dignity to lie beside the other stars of her era. Please help us in this effort. Thank You.

Just joined
I've been into Morticia for a very long time now, but it wasn't until recently that I was able to have fun with my adoration of the bewitching beauty that is Morticia.

Like many of you I remember watching the old TV series and the movies and even the new TV series and just gazing in awe as you see her.

I've had my moments in life where I want to go 'goth' and come to find out my boyfriend really likes the way I look and I told him that I've always wanted to become Morticia for like Halloween or just be able to look more like her and the idea really seems to make him wild, but I've always told him I will only become Morticia if he becomes Gomez because you can't have one without the other....So now I want to be around others that really appreciate such a dark lady and I'm hoping to bring some things out of being in this community....

Besides I want tips for the perfect Morticia dress.....

breakin' the law!
As a rule I've avoided having anyone on here twice, but I think this one of Asia Argento is Tish-ish to qualify for an exception. I'd hate to hoard such things for myself...Plus her dad makes kickass horror movies.

Morticia quest
My girlfriend and I love Morticia beyond words. So we decided she should be her whenever the oppurtunity arose. First we started out witht his skirt and various tops. The quest ended this Halloween when she wore the Morticia dress I had custom made for her in England as a Christmas present. Let us know what you think. Pics of Halloween are to be developed soon. (My digital is broken presently)

I'm not sure how I feel about the Morticia in peril stuff yet. Have to sleep on it...

Land of the Dead
Land of the Dead, directed by Zombie King George Romero, has, for those of you that don't already know, Asia Argento in it.

Aside from being some wonderful eyecandy, Asia's dad is also Dario Argento, a B-horror movie Poohbah in his own right.

It's on the "Wear a trenchcoat to the theatre" list. Funny note; it was actually hard to find a work-safe pic of her on the 'net.

Morticia Addams and the GAME
Greetings Night Creatures.

Whenever I watch old Addams Family episodes on tape (which I just did recently) I’m inspired.
I'll just write. I'll just write free form.... I’ll just tell you all about my Morticia.

Inspired by a recent discussion on an online classic monster message board, I’ll answer the question, “If you could be stranded on a desert island with either Morticia Addams or Lily Munster, whom would you choose?”

To say that Morticia is above reproach would be wrong, to say that she is perfect would also be wrong, but some people have said, (especially when doing the inevitable Morticia vs. Lily Munster comparisons) that she's cold. Cold? Distant? How can a mother be cold and distant? Morticia's family IS her LIFE. She is entirely devoted to them, in every way. Her devotion to Gomez is firm and true and to her children she is the doting mother.
Yes, she truly is.

Watch as she frets on the troubles of Pugsley's joining the boy scouts, watch her weep with worry as little Wednesday runs away from home...see her beside herself as poor Pugsley is turned into a chimp!!! (Or so she and everyone else think)
She worries about spoiling the children, and over-indulging them too much. She knows that sending them to school is the best thing for them (even though Gomez wants to stay home and play with them all day). Morticia is a fine mother.... a great mother, and underneath that "cold and distant" facade, there is the warmest of hearts.

I think that it's easy to compare the two lovely ladies and instantly think Lily is the more motherly of the two. Lily cleans and cooks and does the chores and is a great middle class stay at home mother.

Morticia cooks (not because she has to but because she loves to please her family)
Morticia does not clean- (that's what butlers are for)
Morticia does chores- (but only so that she can feel good about a job well done.) And Morticia is an outstanding mother, upper class and rich regardless.... it affects her not.

Keep in mind that Morticia Frump was not always wealthy. Hester Frump (Morticia's mother) and Ophelia (Morticia's older sister) came to the Addams mansion to arrange a marriage to Gomez (and to receive his amazing wealth).

Alas, Ophelia was jilted at the altar (she actually fell for cousin Itt- that playboy!) and young Morticia Frump married Gomez that day in the Addams living room. 13 years they told their children the tale one dark and stormy night.

Morticia is artistic. Always has been. But in all fairness and honesty, she's not very good. She paints, she sculpts, she writes poetry and stories, she sings, and she does this very sexy bullfrog imitation that drives Gomez crazy. The bullfrog is a really strange thing that Carolyn Jones used to do quite well. It's a real turn to see the otherwise collected and moderate Morticia, smile a childlike mischievous grin and croak like a bullfrog.... her self-titillation is intoxicating.

Ok, since all you lascivious monster collectors are thinking about it...I'll talk sex.
Morticia and Lily are both sexual. In that way, they are more real and alive than most classic TV moms. Lily always seemed more earthy and real in her sex appeal. Odd that she is one of the undead and Tish is human.
Strange, but human.

As far as Morticia's supernatural abilities...
Morticia smokes. Literally. Wisps of smoke pour from her body as she concentrates dreamily, almost orgasm-like on the spell. Yes, I think she's magic...but not as adapt as Mama.
I would guess that Morticia can fly...(but straddling a broomstick) and while true, she's no stronger than a human, she is certainly deadlier.

Tish really enjoys being attractive and desirable. She flirts often (and not just with Gomez) but in a way that makes most people uncomfortable. There are moments of real passion between them and moments of clarity and love.

There is little doubt in MY mind that Morticia is the more sexually adventurous of the two ladies.... and the Addams bedroom must be a real kinky place in the dead of night when all the children are asleep.

Torture devices and restraints, sheer nightgowns and exotic perfumes, and that coy look are probably the norm in the Addams marriage bed. In an amazing juxtaposition, Tish is a bit of a prude outside of the bedroom, not tolerating bad language, ill thoughts, or violence towards anyone else. Even when she mistakenly thought (on a number of occasions) that Gomez was being unfaithful, she refused to resort to violence or revenge, but meekly accepted her fate with her gorgeous blue eyes red and tears streaming down those milky white cheeks. In her heart, she has very low self-esteem in herself, doubting herself in many things. That's when Gomez comes in to make her see the perfection of her heart.

She excels in the things that all good mothers excel at (loving her children, keeping them healthy and happy, teaching them well, and pleasing her husband), and a few things they don't (axe throwing in the living room, séances, and God knows what in the 'playroom') I know that bed of nails is used in creative ways....

A magnificent loving game is played between Gomez and Morticia every day. And a delicious marriage boosting game it is.
The intellectual conversations that often become bizarre and macabre, the smiles, the teasing, the French...(Oh Morticia knows what it does to her Latin lover and make no mistake, when the French just 'slips out' she knows EXACTLY what she's doing.)
There is a real togetherness and companionship that cannot be denied and without her husband and beloved family, Morticia would cease to be, the game would be over and she would wither away. She NEEDS her family; just as sure as Lily needs Herman.

Mother, lover, artist, exotic, sensible, petulant, silly, and sometimes, aloof.... Morticia Frump Addams is the one for me.

So Bon Voyage Lily, enjoy the boat ride to civilization, Morticia and I will be here on this moonlit beach, talking about vultures and art. And if I'm lucky, she'll make the bullfrog sound for me!

Delicia Morticia!!

Oh, and for the record, sitting on the moonlit beach with Morticia Addams never would include any lascivious actions. I respect the sanctity of marriage (especially theirs) too much. I would merely thrill to a magic evening of her company, and perhaps she would teach me how to smoke.

Now Morticia FRUMP...well, all bets are off.

Morticia: What's this dear?
Gomez: That's a Sextant!
Morticia: (with a grin) My...wasn't he the naughty one?

New member here...introducing myself.
Greetings to all Night Creatures Out there.

I am Prof. Griffin. Television Horror Host and Horror Historian from Austin Texas. I'm a new member here and wanted to post a proper introduction to myself and my show.
I am the Host of Prof. Griffin's Midnight Shadow Show and the PREMIERE television horror host in the great state of Texas. I've been a Central Texas Halloween tradition for 5 glorious years.

Along with my assistants, Dan-Dan and Usher, I host cinematic horrors and terrors, carnival style, from Griffin Manor each and every Friday night at MIDNIGHT in Austin, and ever Sunday night at 11:00 pm in Austin, San Antonio, and San Marcos.

I am also very proud to be the Official Halloween Costume Spokesperson for Goodwill Industries of Central Texas, and my yearly Halloween duties include teaching a seasonal class on monsters/horror at The University of Texas, and recently, we have signed with the upcoming FANGORIA TV!
For more, please see:

Well that's enough about me for now.

I look forward to lots of entertaining discussions on one of my most favorite topics....Morticia Addams and what is so accurately described as Morticiaphilia.

But is she flexible enough?
Spring's here. Time to start updating this thing so you Morticiaphiliacs have something to do other than chew at your straightjacket straps.

For starters: Charlize Thereon's Aeon Flux. I had forgotten about her kinda Spookygirl (tm) role in Devil's advocate. I think she works. But then again, I'm a Morticiaphiliac, so they could probably put a pointy black wig on a can of Quaker Oats and I'd still drool over it. Sad, really...

hey yo!
I'm Lauryl, a 15yearold girl in VA. Awesome community.

I've got a big (platonic) crush on Anjelica's Morticia, and thought she was so much cooler than on the original show. Anyone else think so? Also, I can hardly find any pictures or screencaps of her... is there a secret store of them in some shady corner of the internet that Google's mother told it not to play with?

Crossposted by proxy
Snagged from mebeth's journal, so she doesn't have to repost it:

"There are so many posts I could make. I chose the post most geeky. And that has made all the difference

I have mixed feeling of apprehension and glee in regards to this. It's not that I don't like Charlize Theron. It's just that I always pictured someone more like Claudia Black in the role. I dunno. As long as they keep Aeon the same nonchalantly bloodthirsty and ridiculously limber psychopath android that we have all come to know and love, it'll be okay."

Blurgh, *DROOL*. Hadn't seen Claudia Black before...

Had to do household chores all day Saturday, so didn't get to watch any of "The Addams Family" marathon until Sunday. I achieved a moment of Zen when the entire Addams clan sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" directly to the camera at the end of the one where all the adults dressed up as Santa. It was truly odd. You can almost hear the network executives at the pitch meeting long ago... "Oh sure, they're a family of black wizards, but who doesn't love Santa?"
